My 3rd Summer Camp Experience – Michelle

My name is Michelle and this is my third teenagers’ summer camp experience.

My sister reminded me about this summer camp, a weekend before it began. I was super excited it was happening again this year and I began to pack my bags. I registered myself on the Uwani site and looked forward to arriving at the camp.

At this years’ camp, I met a lot of new people, our first class was taken by Mary and it was on digital skills, a recap of what we had learnt in the past.

Then we went on to learn all about t-shirt branding taught to us by Uncle Seyi who owns Lefti Signatures.

I am personally interested in fashion design and I already make some dresses, but learning my basics from Aunt Kemi was perfect. She taught us how to cut and sew by hand, how to make a shirt, & a skirt, as well as how to decorate a dress.

Then Uncle Deolu taught us about photography and how to take good photos with our smartphones. Uncle Geektutor was around this year to teach us WordPress development, how to install a local site and more. Aunt Dayo of Sisu Organics talked to us about natural skin, body and hair products and why we need to choose natural products for our bodies. And we learnt videography from Uncle Sam.

On our outing day, we wanted to go to the farm and have some fun but the rain spoilt every plan of ours, and we had to have our roasted yam, chicken, catfish, and other fishes indoors.

We had so much fun and learnings this year, I want to thank the WordPress community, Yoast, Human Made and all our hosts and facilitators for contributing to making Uwani Hub a safe and happy place for us to learn and enjoy at this years’ camp.
