Pre & Teen Summer Camp Recap 2021-2019

Hi everyone, I just realized I have never gotten to write a recap of our summer teen camps, so this is changing from this year, 2021.

This is a recap of the 1st to 3rd summer teen camp we have held at Uwani Hub. I will start from the 3rd, and go all the way to the 1st.

2021

Our Pre & Teen Summer Camp this year ran from August 7th to the 27th of 2021 and was fully sponsored by the YOAST DIVERSITY FUND 🥳, you can see the breakdown of the expenses here!

This year, we opened up registration with the aim of hosting 30 kids. We had 28 kids register for the camp, 4 kids who could not make it due to disrupted school sessions and exams (because of covid), while some others (12) attended for 14 days out of the 21 as well for other reasons.

At this years’ camp, we had 17 facilitators (including host, catering team, program tutors, and carers) and our wards were taught WordPress blogging, WordPress Development, Fashion Designing, Organic Care, Social Communication, Photography, Videography, Workout Choreography, Digital Literacy, Art of Printing Tees, Electrical Engineering, Typing.

Whew, we sure packed in a lot to learn this year, you can see the full schedule used here. I had looked forward to participating in all the activities with our wards this year, but sadly the universe kicked against that. I took the first class, which was on Digital Literacy, just as my session came to an end, I had stomach trouble that landed me in the hospital, and was immobile for the rest of the week 😭.

Adedotun, however, as always ensured the whole program went as planned and was successful, he sure deserves a treat, as well as other facilitators who gave their best to the camp this year. I thank you all. You can read the stories published by our wards and facilitators here.

We also added a survey this year so as to be able to do better next year. We got feedback from parents, facilitators, and our wards. See the breakdown charts below.

If you ask me, I would say, we are more than ready to plan and host a better Teen Summer Camp in 2022 with the feedback we received.

2020

2020 was the year of COVID and it was a scary one as the Hub was closed throughout the year. We did host the Summer Camp quietly last year and had about 16 participants, following all safety protocols, and it was fun. I will let the stories from the wards and the pictures speak for themselves.

2019

This was the first time we held a summer camp, we had about 7 wards if I am correct, and they were taught basic digital skills and WordPress blogging. The team at Easy WP sponsored our domain this year, they initially opted to provide free blogs for our participants, but we were uncertain they would be able to maintain these blogs afterward, which is why we created a class blog instead for them to share their experiences on our blog.
